Why I Wish Influencers Would Stopping Begging for Likes

I hope that you’re having a marvelous Monday!  Mondays are for sharing my musings…….I have been thinking about a lot of things related to the influencer industry lately.

Before I share what I have been thinking about lately, here is the outfit that I wore to church yesterday.  Photos by Allie Provost:

Anyone posting on IG knows that algorithm changes often make it hard for influencers with a smaller following to get noticed by brands and their followers.  I have seen SO many posts lately complaining about people feeling like their content is not being seen.  While I understand the frustration (because clearly I don’t have 1 million followers), I wish for the love of Jesus and His 12 disciples (minus the one who defected) that we would stop talking about the algorithm, followers, and likes.  And, please stop begging for likes……please.  Ray Charles can see that it is not a good look.  At the end of the day, we should focus on what we own, our blogs.  And, if you don’t have a blog, I encourage you to stop putting all of your eggs in one basket.  Social media platforms are rented space.  So, complain away, but please recognize that Instagram could go away tomorrow.  Then, what would you do?

Also, I love this blog post by one of my favorite influencers, Dana.  In the post, Dana talks about what would happen if IG had not recovered from an outage this past spring.  What we would have done?  It’s a great post because it reminds us to focus on life beyond social media.  Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE connecting with people on social media platforms.  However, I am convinced that social media also causes us to miss out on important moments because we’re too focused on getting the best shot or posting perfectly curated images.  To be sure, I love crisp images that tell important stories.  But, I also love authenticity and I want to share all of the real things that are going on in my world without being negative Nancy.

At the end of the day, I hope that you’ll post what you love without begging for likes and focusing on how many people like your images.
