Hi Everyone!
Last week, I spotted the Gap Polka Dot Boyfriend Shirt on the Gap Instagram page. I am a sucker for polka dots, so I tracked the shirt down in a retail store and had it shipped to me. I think that the Gap shirt is different from the J. Crew Perfect Shirt in Chambray Polka Dot. The Gap version is heavier and has bigger polka dots. Here are a few comparison pictures:

And, finally, here is a closer picture showing the smaller dots on the J. Crew version of this shirt:
My apologies for the blurry picture.
Verdict: I’m keeping both shirts, LOL!
What do you think of these two shirts? Do you prefer one version more than the other? Do tell!
Thanks for stopping by!
I like the Crew one best – it feels more feminine. I think the white bubble necklace looks great with it and makes it feel special. I bet some of your other colored bubbles would nice with it to.
Luxette: I totally agree with you that the J. Crew version is more feminine than the Gap version. And, you're right, the bubble necklace does add a great deal to this shirt. I'll definitely have to try the other colors of the bubble necklace with this shirt!!Thanks SO much for being here!
I purchased the Gap version and I returned it today. For starters, I purchased the wrong size and secondly, I like the size of the dots on the J.Crew shirt better.
Angie's Closet: I hear you! I'm such a sucker for duplicates and polka dots that I don't think that I can return the Gap version, LOL!Thanks SO much for being here!
I love polka dots too. But as similar as the two tops go, I prefer the J. Crew version better.
Small Town Gal: I'm glad to know that I'm not the only person who loves polka dots!!! And, I think that the J. Crew version fits me better. Thanks SO much for being here!
LOL good choice!Tasia
Tasia: Thanks for supporting my duplicate purchases, LOL!!!Thanks SO much for being here!
yes they are both cute!!!
yogagirl: I agree!!! Thanks SO much! Thanks SO much for being here!!
I personally like the JC version better, I like the "texturing" in the chambray, plus I like that soft light chambray. But they are both cute!
Lisa: I totally agree with you about the texture. I'll probably wear a sweater over the Gap version because its texture is heavier. And, you're right, they're both cute, which is why I can't let go of either one, LOL!Thanks SO much for being here!
Rynetta! I want to visit your closet – it must be wonderful!I think I like the JC version slightly beter for the reasons noted by the others. Do you have a plan as to how you will wear each of them. I thought of you today – my PS told me that there will be a no 2 pencil skirt released thurs in a snakeskin print! I am anxious to see it!
WMM: I would love for you to visit!!!!I totally agree with you and everyone else that the J. Crew version seems better. I think that I'll wear the J. Crew version with a bubble necklace. I'll probably wear the Gap version like it's styled on their website with a kelly green sweater over the shirt.About the pencil skirt: OOOOOOOO!!! My VPS mentioned this skirt too. I'm hoping that it's not a neutral color so that I can grab it!Thanks SO much for being here!
I like them both, and thanks for the side-by-side comparison of the dots. I'll bet the white bubble necklace looks good with the GAP shirt too.
cate: Thanks SO much!!! You're very welcome! I agree with you that the white bubble necklace looks great with the Gap version too. Thanks SO much for being here!
they are both cute on you R!!! could you please let us know how you sized in them? they're sold out online, but i may have to try to track it down via CS!! xox P
phiphis blog: Thanks SO much!!! I took my normal size up top, a 12, in the J. Crew version. And, I took a Large in the Gap version. Please let me know if you need the style number for either one of these shirts! Thanks SO much for being here!!
if you could, that would be so amazing!! thank you R!! xox Pphiphisblog@gmail.com!!
You've got mail!
I completely understand your need for both-lol! I have the jcrew version and one similar to the Gap version–thicker material, larger dots–from Lands End Canvas. You will get much use out of both, I'm sure! I adore the white bubble necklace…might need to get me one of those 😉
AppGal: LOL, I'm glad that someone completely understands my need to purchase duplicates!!! I totally agree with you that I'll get a lot of wear out of both of these shirts. And, you would rock the white bubble necklace to perfection!!!Thanks SO much for being here!
Lol, love them both on you! Especially with the bubble necklace. If it were me, I probably would have kept which ever was cheaper. After all of J.Crew's sales, my wallet is a little thin these days:)
biscuitsandnavy: Thanks SO much!! I agree with you, I think that the bubble necklace adds just the right amount of pop. I'm trying to get better about purchasing duplicates, but I just couldn't resist these two shirts! Thanks SO much for being here!
Both have good qualities. I like the subtle dots on the J crew version and it's soft & comfortable. For me personally I prefer the larger dots on the Gap shirt. Both are different enough to keep and look good w/the white bubble. Nice!
Gigi: I totally agree with you that both of these shirts have good qualities. I think that the larger dots are great. And, you're right, they are different enough to keep both. Thanks for helping me justify keeping both, LOL!Thanks SO much for being here!
They both have different effects! If I had to pick one it would be the JCrew, but I would definitely rock them both!P.S. I'm a new follower and you are making me want to do some serious damage to my wallet! ;)xxBethany
Bethany: I agree, both of these shirts have different qualities! Thanks SO much for following my blog! I'm following your wonderful blog too! Thanks SO much for being here!
I own the J.Crew version, but have seen the Gap version, which is supposed to fit looser. The JC version has a more feminine cut. I like them both, but like the JC one much better. My wallet doesn't allow me to own two shirts that are so similar. LOL. Wish I could!
Jennifer: I agree that the Gap version is definitely not as fitted as the J. Crew version. I like both of these shirts too. I just couldn't decide which one to keep, LOL!Thanks SO much for being here!
I liked how the JC one looked in photos but up close I liked the GAP one better. The color on the GAP shirt is more blue and less "gray" chambray than the the JC. I liked the smaller dots on the JC but I also liked the GAP one. Both shirts are increasingly hard to find but I ended up buying the GAP one (after traveling to 5 stores to find it in my size). The GAP shirt was a more honest price IMO.
TC: You're right, both of these shirts have been very hard to find. I purchased the J. Crew version in my retail store the day it hit the sales floor, but I had to call around to find the Gap version. I really like both shirts! Thanks SO much for being here!
Hi Rynetta!I love the J. Crew version on you! Very pretty! I tried both shirts and bought the Gap version. The J. Crew version wouldn't accomidate my "manly" shoulders and arms. Way too tight and the body of the shirt was too big. The Gap shirt is more fitted and shaped in the body and fit me much better and wasn't tight in the arms. I can see a place in your closet for both! The Crew shirt is more dressy and the Gap a little more casual. I look forward to seeing how you style them!
I have this problem too with J. Crew Perfect Shirts. My shoulders are broad so I buy the right size to accommodate them, but then the body of the shirt is always too big (and then that doesn't layer very well). Hm, maybe I do need to try on the GAP shirt!
Hi straycat!! Thanks SO much!!! You're right, both of these shirts have totally found in a place in my closet, LOL! And, you nailed it, the J. Crew version is a bit dressier than the Gap version. cate! You should definitely try the Gap version. It fits me really well across the top. I think that you'd like the fit! Thanks SO much for being here, ladies!
Hi Rynetta! I love and own the J Crew version of this top! I find I can wear it with almost anything! The Gap top is very cute too–I like the larger polka dots.
Hi AD MD! OOOOO, I'd love to know how you style your shirt!!! And, like you, I really like the larger polka dots on the Gap version too. Thanks SO much for being here!
Are you sure your name isn't Buffy? I would do both also. :O)
Buffy Alten: LOL!!!!!! I'm SO glad that I'm not alone!!!Thanks SO much for being here!
I went with the Gap version – but yes – they are both wonderful 🙂
mack: The Gap version is really great! It sold out quickly too. I'd love to know how you're styling yours!!!Thanks SO much for being here!
I haven't seen either in person and can't really say from the pics which I prefer as they both look great. Enjoy your dots!
Misty Lynn: Thanks SO much!!! I really like polka dots, LOL!Thanks SO much for being here!
Thanks for your review of the chambray polka dot shirts. I purchased the Gap version online this morning. I kept checking their website & one in my size was available this morning. I prefer a more casual look so the Gap shirt will be perfect. I'm delighted that polka dots are the trend this year – love them!! Just found your blog. It's great!
